Ownership

Ownership and the APV9T Transfer/Tax Form

To sell a vehicle in BC, the registered owner signs the Transfer/Tax Form (APV9T). The form has four pages, and each page needs an original signature. Bring your registration and photo ID so the details match.

Plates

Plates and Insurance

Remove your licence plates before the car leaves. You can move them to your next vehicle or hand them in at an Autoplan broker. Talk to your broker about your insurance once the car is sold.

Common situations

If Something Is Missing

Lost registration

An Autoplan broker can replace it before the sale.

Estate cars

The executor or person with legal authority can sell. Bring the supporting documents.

No keys

Tell us before pickup so we can plan. You still need to show ownership.

Out of province vehicles

Tell us where the car is registered when you call, and we will explain what we need.

Liens and loans

A vehicle with a loan on it cannot be sold until the lien is cleared.

The day itself

On Pickup Day

  1. Be there or send someone

Someone with authority should hand over the car and paperwork.

  2. Check access

Make sure the truck can reach the car.

  3. Sign the paperwork

Complete the transfer form with us.

  4. Remove the plates

    Before the car is loaded.

Small things that help

Before the Truck Arrives

Clear a path to the car if you can. Move bikes, bins or other vehicles out of the way so the truck can get close. If the car is in an underground lot, check the height limit and tell us about gates or fobs.

Take out everything you want to keep. People often forget garage door openers, parking passes, child seats, sunglasses and documents in the glovebox.

If the car has not moved in a long time, let us know about flat tires or seized brakes. It does not stop the pickup, but it helps us bring the right equipment.
